Too bad, the catback I bought has V-band clamps. Can't complain only got it for 450. So then, how much do you think it would be to get a muffler shop to make one of these with a v-band clamp. It is literally just a 8 inch pipe, that connects to the exhaust to bypass the muffler and to move the hot gasses away from vital parts. Great for when I want to be an asshole, and during autocrossing to lose 20lbs without melting stuff.

Depends on the shop, most autocrosses have a decibel limit, so thats probably not going to work out, and open header or open turbo exhausts don't make you into an asshole. When I disconnect my catback from my catless downpipe, I'm doing the world a favor by letting more people experience the acoustic equivalent of an orgasm. It sounds hella race car.

Neither of my cars have mufflers connected... The PO cut the cat off the Fiat, so there's nothing between the header and the muffler, and I cut the muffler off the Mazda and had a bit of pipe welded in to keep the stock tip in-place.

Velocity-Silky Smooth Six and Godspeed11 can tell you what the Mazda sounds like, to confirm the awesome growl she has.

In the middle of the process of replacing my cat last year, I got a chance to drive with a totally open downpipe for just a while. Part of it was pretty glorious but I'd definitely not want it all the time. Some kind of cutout and short side pipe would be awesome. Are you looking at bolted, cable, or electric cutouts?

To me it sounds like he wants to unbolt his muffler and bolt this pipe in place for autocrossing.

Ah yes. Forgot he mentioned weight saving. The back pressure relief will do more for his power/weight ratio than shedding the pounds, though.

Nameless track pipe?

Lower weight makes you faster everywhere. More power only makes you faster in a straight line. This gives him the best of both worlds

Any decent shop would do this.

Nice I thought I recognised the welds, I have the 4in exit for mine. It's awesome, FRS?

I am sure if I am competing at the National level they will, but so far, the ones I have been to there hasn't been one. I even talked to some of the organizers and they said "yeah, we don't really care, play the song of your people!"

Indeed sir. I bought a used Perrin catback, it is great for daily driving, but it isn't quite loud enough, even with headers!!!

This is only for either racing, running around town for the hell of it, or going down a good driving road. The muffler is for the other 90% of the time, when I just want to drive and be not an asshole.

Kinja'd!!! Jonathon Klein > YSI-what can brown do for you

Trust me the Nameless will be loud enough, although if you have it around 2500rpm there is a slight drone, but at 3000 its super quiet until you get back on the gas, I love it

The way I see it, if you can make the switchover process easier, you will get to enjoy it more. Getting under your car and manipulating the entire potentially too-hot-to-touch cat-back pipe is a daunting task for just a bit of hooning around time. A cutout valve will leave that extra 20 pounds attached, yes, but you get relatively easy access to the sound and throttle response of the open header.

There is near zero drone with the Perrin system, I love it on long trips!! I still kind of want a Nameless Axleback, it looks sexy and it seems to sound pretty nice. This guy has the same headers as me, and just listen!!

Yeah mine sounds like a rally car and I love that about it. I should look into the Perrin system.

Well, I wouldn't be opposed to this, but there would be a lot of wiring and cutting up of the exhaust, which I don't want to do. Plus, getting the wiring to my fingers might be a pain. Don't want to mess around with the car too much. Plus taking the muffler off takes 10 minutes, without a lift!

Kinja'd!!! YSI-what can brown do for you > Jonathon Klein

You can probably get it used in your area, good deal if you do that. Otherwise go with a Q300 if you are looking for a new exhaust.

Way too variable to say. Would depend on the type of material, their labor rate, diameter of tube, how many welds, etc etc. They may be able to modify the one you have as well. Just drive around and get a couple estimates.

You are planning on going supercharged? That is a lot of money, I don't have! I am more concerned about engine longevity though, even if it is only 9psi. Have you looked at the Innovate kit? People get them up to 360whp!

wicked, yea, I know my rx8 was a little on the loud side with just a catback, though I never got called on it. I still haven't gotten around to autocrossing my GTI, though I'm hoping my catless turbo back isn't too loud. With all of the sound deadening, in cabin I surely don't think so.

Kinja'd!!! Jonathon Klein > YSI-what can brown do for you
02/05/2014 at 14:20

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, they are pretty different though, the Innovate one is traditional belt driven which can have a few things problematic with it, but the Vortech is a centrifugal which still is run by the belt but acts more like a turbo in my experience. Although a GReddy turbo would be nice, but again lots of money.

I am sure it is. You have a turbo, that takes the noise levels down quite a bit!

You could get these, I think the whole kit is a little around 3.5k! Comes with a turbo. Although, you will need to find a tuner to tune it.

Kinja'd!!! americancarfanboi > YSI-what can brown do for you
02/05/2014 at 14:35

Kinja'd!!!0

Yea, the turbo does quiet it down a bit, but the few times I've pulled the akrapovic mufflers off and ran open turbo, it doesn't quiet it down too much. Still had a headache within 15 minutes.
